At Amington Heath Primary, we expect children to attend school every day, as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. Research shows that pupils who attend school regularly are more likely to do well in the future. For example those who gain 96% attendance (which is 1 week of school missed) 90% of these will get a level 4 or 5 in English or Maths. Regular attendance also helps children to develop their confidence and to make and keep lasting friendships.
Half termly Attendance Checker
Every half term letters are sent out to parents/carers to raise awareness on how little or much time their child/ren will be missing throughout the year. Letters will include information on how to get support if required. These letters are colour coded as below:
Green will be sent if their childs attendance is 95%-100%. This is excellent!
Amber will be sent if their child's attendance is 90%-94%.
Red will be sent if their attendance is less than 90%. Education welfare will be involved at this point.
We celebrate good attendance termly at our Friday Parents assembly. We reward outstanding attendance (100%) with individual pupil certificates and prizes. We also award certificates to those who have shown the most improvement overall.
To reward those coming into school on time we have started a new system called the Early Bird. Each day the children who arrive at school before or at 8.55am will be asked to fill their name on a token in class and put it in a jar. For Reception children we ask that parents help their children to do this. On Friday a prize draw will be held where the children can win things, from free disco tickets to Airmiles, to Super Draw Prizes. The more times they are punctual the better the chance of winning!
