See if you can identify the different stories in the book.

Using different shaped paper make a castle from a traditional story. Talk about the shapes you have used and the properties.

Plant a broad bean in a clear zip lock bag or food bag with some cotton wool. Water it and attach it to a window and watch it grow. Talk about the changes you see over the days/weeks. Which story has a beanstalk in it?

Paint a picture of your favourite character from a traditional fairy tale.

On four strips of paper can you draw your own version of a mixed up fairy tale? Think of a character then another character, then the setting, then the problem (what happened.)

Using drinking straws and marshmallows can you build a house for the three little pigs?

Give your child a number of the same items up to five and ask them to arrange them on a plate or table etc.. Ask them to explain how they have done this. EG: If three is a whole then 1 is a part and two is a part. Get them to put the items back together to make the whole number again.

Choose one of your favourite traditional tales to listen to. Talk about the characters in the story, what is happening in the story and where the story Is set. Show the adult reading it to you to where they need to start reading from and which way to go.

Use resources from around your house to act out your favourite traditional tale.

 

 

Friday 22nd May

Writing: (30-50, 40-60) Put some large paper on the floor, get your pens and crayons and see if you can draw a story map of the story ‘the frog prince.’ Re-tell the story to someone in your house. Write your name on your story so people know who made it.

Ask your child how many have you got? See if they can say how many without counting them. Arrange the objects in different ways and ask how many are there?

Fine motor: Make some green jelly and add in some black beans, seeds or what ever you have that is small. Use some tweezers to pick out the frog eggs from the jelly!

The world: (30-50, 40-60) Go for a walk in a park with an adult and see if you can spot any frogs or tadpoles near a pond. Make sure you hold an adults hand near the water.

Thursday 21st May

Shape, Space and Measure: (30-50, 40-60) See if you can make a frog out of paper shapes. Talk about the shapes that you have used. Name them and talk about the properties of the shape. Add a crown to the frog and talk about the shapes used.

Moving and Handling: (30-50, 40-60) Take a ball outside and practice throwing and catching it, rolling, kicking and bouncing it with a sibling or adult.

Media and Materials: (30-50, 40-60) Make yourself a crown out of resources at home fit for a princess or a prince.

Reading: (30-50, 40-60) Have a look around your house, garden or on a walk and find things that begin with the phoneme (sound) fffff.

Wednesday 20th May

Managing feelings and behaviour: (30-50, 40-60) In the story of the frog prince the frog feels sad when the princess goes back to the palace without him. Later in the story he feels happy when she lets him share her food. The princess also shows different kinds of emotions. Talk about how she feels at different parts of the story and why. Talk about what can things can hurt other people’s feelings and why.

Media and materials: (30-50, 40-60) Put on different types of music that would link to different emotions. (lively music for being happy, slow quiet music for being sad etc) See if you can dance around to the music showing the different types of emotions.

Health and selfcare: (30-50, 40-60) Put your hand on your heart and feel your heart beating. Is it beating fast or slow? Now have another frog race in your garden leaping to the other side and back. Put your hand back on your heart. What has happened?

Try saying “This is five. I can see a two and a three in it. This is four I can see a two and another two in it. This is two I can see a one and another one in it. Etc.

Tuesday 19th May

Making relationships: (30-50, 40-60) Have some dolls/ teddies and act out different scenes where it shows different emotions. (not having any friends to play with etc) Encourage your child to talk about how that person is feeling and why. Link this to the story of the frog prince and how he felt when the princess walked off and left him at first.

 

Self confidence and self-awareness/ writing: (30-50, 40-60) Encourage your child to draw a picture of something they like to do or go to. Ask them to talk to you about their drawing and tell you why they like doing these things.

The world: (30-50, 40-60) Go on the internet with an adult and research about the life cycle of a frog. What happens first? What do the eggs hatch into? Where do frogs live? What do they like to eat? Etc…

Monday 18th May

Good morning Nursery! Hope you all had a lovely weekend. This week we will be learning about the story of the frog prince.

Reading: (30-50, 40-60) Show your child the cover page of the story ‘The frog prince’  Ask your child to predict what they think may happen in the story. Listen to the story. During parts of the story pause it and ask your child to predict what will happen next. Ask your child to suggest how the story might end.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhq_FEUEc8Y

Speaking: (30-50, 40-60) Discuss the story with your child and talk about how the princess had kept her promise and was kind in the end. Ask your child to tell you about a time where they have been kind and encourage them to explain what they did. Encourage your child to extend their sentences by joining two together using and or because. Model how to do this. Model how to speak in full sentences by telling them something you have done to be kind. Repeat what your child has said while extending their sentence for them if they struggle.

Moving and Handling: (30-50, 40-60) The weather is going to be nice this week so get in the garden and have a frog race! See who can leap like a frog to the other side of your garden first!

Peg on a picture of a number block (you can draw it) either 2,3,4,or 5. Around the house place different pics (you can draw them) of items in different arrangements and amounts. Ask your child to look at them and only bring back the ones that match the amount with the number block on the washing line.
